Rain, Rain, Go Away...

But of course. As soon as the bulldozer was done digging the basement, the rain came in. It didn't let up all week. It rained at least an inch each day. The result? Huge amounts of sludge.

First a bobcat scraped it up, then we had 175 tons (yep, that's right!) of gravel brought in to be sure we have a steady, even base for the basement floor.

We have basement walls. I climbed the sludge mountain trying to get a good angle for a picture. On the way up, the sludge felt fairly dry and stable. Not the same on the way down. I hit a soft spot and my foot sunk about 2 feet. Tried to pull my foot out and left my shoe and sock in the hole! Too funny. Thankfully both feet didn't sink. Drove home minus one shoe, but I had a good laugh.

Bulldozer

Our builder said he would start digging on Monday. The bulldozer was there at 7:30. Ivan didn't like the noise. He kept running to the street yelling, "bulldozer no smash Ivan!". They both had a great time running up and down the bulldozer tracks on the rock pile.
